Please note, the Practice will be closed for Staff Training for 2 hours on Wednesday 26th February from 1pm to 3pm

Did you know we can now offer appointments with The Extended Access Service? This is an extension of your usual primary care practice. It is not a walk-in service – you need to make an appointment. The Service is located at Mowbray Square in Harrogate and appointments can only be booked by us at Eastgate Medical Group for our patients. You can get appointments up to 8pm weekdays and on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Ask our receptionists about this when you call.

Who will do my medication review?

If you have one or more of the following conditions or prescriptions, please book your medication review with our practice nurse:

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Ischaemic Heart Disease (Angina, Heart Attack)

Contraceptive pill

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Patients with other medical conditions should make an appointment to see a GP.

Patients can also make an appointment with our pharmacist who can deal with all medication reviews apart from those relating to mental health problems.

If you do not think the medication you are on requires a face to face appointment, for example, patients with eczema who have emollients on repeat, please make a telephone appointment with our practice pharmacist.

Help us to keep in contact with you

If you have a mobile telephone and would like the surgery to contact you via text message, for example to remind you when your medication review is due, please let reception or a health professional know that you consent to this method of contact.

Why do I need a medication review?

As part of our continuing care to our patients, we ask that all medication is reviewed by the practice at least once a year. This is to ensure that the medication is still effective and appropriate for the condition for which it is being prescribed. Please note that you may also be monitored at a hospital or other institution but we are also required to review you if we issue any prescriptions.

What will happen at the review?

The annual review may include a blood test, blood pressure check, etc. and an appointment with the appropriate clinician (GP, practice nurse, pharmacist). For some patients, for example diabetics, this may be done more than once a year.

How do I know when my medication review is due?

The date of your medication review can be found on the right-hand side of your paper prescription.

If you are overdue a medication review, we will add a reminder to the right-hand side of your prescription or send you a letter or a text message.  For safety reasons, if you do not respond to these requests, your GP may have to restrict the quantity of medication on further prescriptions until you are reviewed.
